How to wash silk?
We reveal all our tips for maintaining and cleaning silk and thus, keeping your IKA pieces in time!
Namely, there are different types of silk, some are more fragile than others, can be cleaned by machine, by hand or even some do not even support water. Always follow the care instructions on the label.
Gentle with laundry
We avoid powder detergents and above all, bleaching agents which could damage the silk fibers. Opt for a specific washing product for delicate laundry or a Marseille soap.
Hot Cocooooo!
Always clean the silk with lukewarm water, the fibers are damaged with hot water. To clean your piece, let it sit for 5 minutes in lukewarm water, then rinse it gently.
Spinning? Surely not
The fibers are fragile, do not wring your laundry in the machine and above all do not try to remove excess water by twisting the garment, you risk damaging it. You can sponge the fabric by placing it between two towels for example. Lay it flat on a drying rack, do not expose it to direct sunlight or near a radiator, this could alter the color of the silk or leave marks.
And for ironing?
Use an iron, always at low temperature on still damp fabric. Turn your garment over so that the label is facing out and iron gently from top to bottom to avoid pulling on a fiber. Once the ironing is finished, place your garment on a hanger to let it dry completely.
Up to you !
