NOS MATIÈRES

LA VISCOSE

Viscose is the first artificial material to have been discovered, it is made from wood flakes and is considered one of the first ecologically responsible and sustainable materials.

It is a particularly soft material for the skin, it is breathable and very resistant.

LE TENCEL

Tencel, also known as lyocell, is a material produced from wood pulp, generally from eucalyptus or bamboo.

It is an eco-responsible material whose production method is very respectful of the environment. It is an alternative to viscose which is more environmentally friendly. This material has many properties, it is breathable, soft, thermoregulating and anti-bacterial.

SILK

Silk is a natural fiber that comes from the cocoon of the Bombyx caterpillar, commonly known as the silkworm.

It is a soft and delicate material, which is very resistant and wrinkle-free.

RECYCLED POLYESTER

The recycled polyester fibers come from the recovery of plastic bottles.

Fabrics made from recycled yarns allow for a considerable reduction in energy consumption, water consumption and CO2 emissions as well as plastic waste.

THE PROVENANCE

All fabrics at IKA Paris are eco-sourced.

For collections with plain colors we source our fabrics in Paris from a company specialized in upcycling unsold fabrics from the most exclusive French fashion houses.

For our collections with exclusive IKA prints we source mostly organic cotton, silk or innovative and sustainable fabrics such as tencel, rpet or lyocell. We work with two small factories: one in the Netherlands and one in Italy.

The devil is in the details: our brand labels are woven in Portugal, our composition labels are made in Paris, our vegetable buttons are produced near Lyon.

All our packaging is recyclable, reusable and made with high quality organic materials in Romania and Germany.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF OUR PIECES

It is no longer a secret that the textile sector has become one of the most polluting sectors on the planet. According to ADEME, more than 100 billion garments are sold each year in the world, representing more than 4 billion CO2 emissions per year.

The main causes of these emissions are the choice of materials, the location of the garment and the life cycle.

At IKA Paris we were quite curious about our positioning, and so in 2022 we took the step of evaluating the environmental impact of our signature pieces: the silk scarves and our silk and viscose sets printed with our exclusive designs.

With the help of DECEO, a qualified French company that refers to the ADEME Impact Base, we calculated each criterion on the basis of CO2 emissions, water eutrophication, water consumption and microplastic discharges. To do this, our pieces were compared to similar pieces of fast fashion ...

OUR RESULTS

The IKA silk scarf vs fast fashion

-40% less CO2 emissions
-100% reduction in microplastic emissions

The IKA set vs fast fashion

-30% less CO2 emissions
-100% reduction in microplastic emissions

The choice of material represents more than 90% of the environmental impact of our square. The transportation, the country of manufacture, as well as the life cycle represent less than 10% of the environmental impact.
